Fully Comprehensive Car Insurance Cover

|
Fully comprehensive insurance is the most comprehensive
of car insurance policies. It is more expensive than third party and fire & theft policies but includes adequate cover for the policyholder
and their car.
Comprehensive insurance does not however mean "complete" cover.
There are usually always exclusions in policies so you must make careful comparisons between different companies.
Some of these exclusions may be:
- Windscreen Cover
- Breakdown Cover
- Courtesy Car Upon Collision
- Courtesy Car after Theft (A MUST to check)
- Audio Equipment
- Business Travel (not to and from a place of work)
Apart from the above, damage to the vehicle is
covered and the policyholder can be assured that if the accident is their fault they can claim against the policy (they may not choose to claim if the damage is negligable as the 'No Claims Bonus or Discount' is usually affected).
The No Claims Bonus can be built over four to six years (policy and company dependant). Discounts can be up to 65% for a full term without a claim. Some companies even introduce a small discount for drivers without any experience which can save over £100 in many cases. The No Claims Bonus can be protected for an extra premium BUT this usually only allows you 3 claims in a given period before you start to lose it again.
In the case of a minor accident it would be prudent to consider paying for the damage yourself. The excess you initally agreed added to the No Claims Bonus you would lose by making the claim will probably exceed the repair bill and is usually not viable.
